Local Congregation "Crams a SAM" to Aid Schools in Ethiopia |
||
WHEATON, Ill., July 30, 2007 – With tremendous support from the Wheaton, Ill. community, the local congregation of Blanchard Alliance Church is close to reaching its goal of collecting 37,000 pounds of donated books to send across the world to the more than 250 elementary schools that will be constructed over the next 10 years by local congregations of the Kale Heywet church in Ethiopia. To emphasize literacy, math, and science as integral to learning, the congregation implemented the Ethiopian Book Project. With the assistance of volunteers, the church has been gathering donated books primarily for elementary schools and the Graduate School of Theology, packaging and shipping the books to Ethiopia. The project began July 1 and will run until the end of September. “We can’t thank the community enough for their dedication to this project,” said Nancy Horn, project coordinator for the Ethiopian Book Project. “In particular, a special thanks to Glen Ellyn Storage for donating a SAM to temporarily house the growing assortment of books.” "Literacy is essential in ensuring a successful next generation; we feel that it is our duty to support this feat for Ethiopian children,” said Smith. To make a donation to the Ethiopian Book Project, please contact Nancy Horn at 630.221.1803. For more information about SAM services, please call 800-GET-A-SAM or visit www.getasam.com.
